I’m running this October for the 1 in 40 Australians on the autism spectrum.

I’m running 40km this October to raise funds for the estimated 1 in 40 Australians on the autism spectrum!

‘Why fit in when you were born to stand out’ ~ Dr Suez

As most of you know Frankie was diagnosed with the highest level of autism at the age of two after she stopped speaking and was showing signs of autism. We were told that the chances of Frankie to speak again were incredibly low, that she will most likely never go to a main stream school, will be totally dependent her whole life on someone else, that she would most likely be in a nappy for the rest of her life and the list goes on.

Fast track three years and Frankie is thriving in a mainstream school, having conversations with people, fully toilet trained and maybe even a little too Independent. Frankie spent a lot of time in therapy and learning different ways of thinking and learning to other children, she has had to work ten times harder to be where she is today compared to what society describes as a ‘normal child’.

She is one of the most amazing little person you will ever meet if you are lucky enough to have the chance and we would not want her any other way.

All of this would not have been possible without getting an early diagnosis and the help from some amazing people in our community. With this being said the process to get any sort of help from the government is long and it’s expensive which most everyday families can’t afford. Run for Autism is Financially supporting families get help who cannot afford it so children just like Frankie can thrive.

Run for autism starts on the first of October and It doesn’t matter how good of a runner you are or if you can’t run at all. It’s about giving it a go, educating yourself, spreading awareness and if you can raising a little bit of cash for an amazing charity.

Because no child deserves to get left behind.

Increased awareness and understanding means more people than ever are being diagnosed as Autistic – connecting more people to the support they need to thrive throughout their lives. But it also means services are being stretched further than ever before - with many children left on long wait lists at critical times in their development.

I have joined Run for autism to raise funds so more Autistic Australians can access the life-changing assessments, autism-specific education, specialist therapies and adult community services they need to create their own unique brilliance!

Any contribution, large or small, will help create a more inclusive future for Australia’s Autistic community.

Thank you so much!
