I’m running this October for the 1 in 40 Australians on the autism spectrum.

Within only 12 months, the number of people being diagnosed on the spectrum has jumped dramatically from 1 in 70, to now 1 in 40. While it is good to see people be diagnosed (for their mental health in the future, or for their development as a little one), the barriers to access support (waitlists, finances, hours of being on phones, months, years, financial and emotional tolls) make it just not good enough..  

Keti and I were fortunate enough to have jobs that have enabled us to provide support and early intervention for our boy ($ out of our own pockets and ability to access leave) for over a year. However, it is not lost on us that for many others (including those who require greater support), that this is not the case.. 

Early intervention is life changing.. Family education is necessary, support for anyone at anytime is life changing.. Assessments are vital.. 

Access to those should be a matter of equality and not determined by the socioeconomic status of a family, at any stage of the journey for however long.. 

That’s why we have chosen to partake in this cause.. Raise awareness and whatever funds we can towards a great cause. No one, especially our kids should be disadvantaged for reasons  they cannot change.
