Running for Maiava and Autism Awareness 🧩

Meet Maiava, my firstborn, and a true superhero blessed with the superpower known as Autism. 🧩

This October, I’ve committed to running 120km as part of #RunForAutism, not just to raise $250, but to raise awareness about autism, especially within our Polynesian community. This journey is personal for me because shortly after Maiava’s 5th birthday, he was diagnosed with level 2 autism. He is my main motivation for every step I take this month.

While fundraising is important, my main focus is on breaking down barriers. In our community, too often we hear, "they’ll be okay" or "they’ll grow out of it," but we need to change that narrative. Our children deserve access to the right resources, whether it's getting proper assessments or therapy to help them overcome the challenges they face.

Organizations like Aspect are doing incredible work, helping families access the support their children need, especially for those with financial difficulties. But more than anything, this is about raising awareness, understanding, and ensuring every child like Maiava gets the best chance for a brighter future.

I’m not just running for Maiava; I’m running for every child on the spectrum, for every family navigating the challenges of autism, and for our community, so we can break through the stigma and support our kids in every way possible.
